Donation to NKUA in Memory of Professor Ioanna Andreadou

A donation of significant social and symbolic value, dedicated to the memory of the late Ioanna Andreadou, who served as Professor of Pharmacology at the School of Pharmacy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), was made by Tsetis Pharmaceutical Group at the initiative of its President, Julia Tsetis.

Professor Ioanna Andreadou, who passed away unexpectedly in January 2025, was a member of the Scientific and Advisory Committee of the KLEON TSETIS Non-Profit Organization.

The donation includes 106 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and an equal number of first-aid kits, which are already being installed across NKUA facilities in Attica and Evia, significantly enhancing the safety of students, academic staff and visitors.

The donation was officially announced by NKUA Rector Professor Gerasimos Siasos and Julia Tsetis, President of OFET, during a memorial event held in honor of Ioanna Andreadou. The event was jointly organized by NKUA and Tsetis Pharmaceutical Group and took place in the Great Hall of the University of Athens on June 3, 2026.

The event was attended by members of the academic community, professors and collaborators who had worked closely with Professor Andreadou throughout her distinguished scientific and research career.

Opening the event, Rector Gerasimos Siasos highlighted Professor Andreadou’s important contribution to the advancement of pharmaceutical science, as well as her dedication to the University of Athens and its students.

The Rector also expressed his gratitude to Julia Tsetis for this significant contribution to NKUA, emphasizing that “sudden cardiac arrest remains a major challenge for healthcare systems, with the first minutes being critical for patient survival and outcomes”.

In her address, Julia Tsetis spoke with great emotion about Ioanna Andreadou, highlighting her outstanding scientific career and lifelong contribution to research and academia. As she noted, Professor Andreadou established herself among Europe’s leading researchers in basic cardiovascular research.

As Julia Tsetis stated:

Ioanna actively supported the work of the Kleon Tsetis Non-Profit Organization and contributed, through her experience and academic maturity, to initiatives aimed at strengthening the work of academics, universities and research centers, at a time when genuine collaborations and meaningful support were often difficult to find.

She was an active member of NKUA’s Gender Equality Committee and, following the tragic murder of her student Garifallia Psarakou, played a leading role in initiatives and events raising awareness against gender-based violence.

The donation of 106 defibrillators to the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is far more than a contribution of medical equipment. It is a meaningful act of remembrance and a way for Ioanna Andreadou’s legacy to continue saving and supporting human lives, even in her absence”.
